A tribute to the braves
Aage aage veer jawan, peeche saara Hindustan
(The warrior leads, the country follows….)
It was the year 1999, Mr. Atal Bihari Vajpayee (prime minister then) had returned from a peace summit held in Pakistan……….it was the time when the friendly bus service b/w India and Pakistan was shown a green flag………people thought things might change b/w both nations because the peace summit had many perspectives which made it silent over the BORDER……………but not for long, this silence proved to be costly for the Indians………….. as the famous KARGIL WAR took place…………….
The kargil war was in action b/w May 8 and July 22 when both the Pakistani forces and Kashmiri militants were detected atop the Himalayan Ridges..
A STATE OF HIGH ALTITUDE OFFENCE AGAINST THE PAKISTANI POSTS HAD EMERGED!!!!!!
I was just nine at that time but that fear is still fresh in ma body when I was crying over the phone asking my dad”papa aap ladai me nahi jaoge na……..”. this all happened because I overheard my mum saying that my dad might get a call from the warfront…………………I was in agartala at that time………….
Now lets move to the warfront
It was dark and cold in the DRASS SECTOR, Capt. Vikram Batra who had earned himself an instructor’s post by now had his men quite low on moral………
It was 11:45 in the night and he(vikram batra) was really upset as a bullet meant for him hit his fellow men and he lost him…..
By now his only aim was to capture peak 5140 keeping in mind what he had learned at the time of his training at Indian military academy(IMA) dehradun
The safety honor and welfare of your country comes first always and everytime……
The honor welfare and comfort of the men you command comes next
Your own ease comfort and safety comes last always and every time
It was time for Capt. Vikram Batra to prove that he was a true Indian soldier as it was his very first major battle………
Vikram batra and his men carried out their operation successfully in the dark of night, 24 year old Vikram and his men assaulted the enemy, the enemy camp was destroyed….... all of the batra’s men were alive and peak 5140 was back in the hands of her mother………her mother INDIA.
Next morning after raisin the Indian flag atop the peak, Vikram Batra came down……severely injured as he was involved in close hand to hand combat with three of the Pakistani soldiers……now after he reached down at the base camp, one of the NDTV correspondent asked him “ what do you want to say about your successful assault on the peak 5140……WILL YOU LIKE TO RETURN TO THE WARFRONT AGAIN”….to this he replied “ YEY DIL MAANGEY MORE”
The famous Pepsi catchline those days became the catchline of the kargil war……….
Then vikram called his dad
HIS DAD TO NDTV CORRESPONDENT
He(vikram) called me(his dad) saying” dad I’ve captured…….” For a moment I(his dad) thought he had been captured by the enemy post but he spoke again “ dad I’ve captured the enemy post I’M OK I’M OK”……he was speaking very fast and his voice was not clear as he was calling from the satellite phone I said” beta I am proud of you…………may god bless you to carry your task there”. It was the most happiest moment of my life……………
A few days later Capt. Vikram called his family again but this time Mr.Batra’s(his dad) heart lurched as vikram said” dad my unit is being sent to the warfront in kargil………papa ya to tiranga lehra ke aaunga ya fir usi me lipta hua aaunga (either I will raise the Indian flag atop the hill or will come wrapped in it).. mr.batra knew what his son was feeling at that moment, his son was in two minds….
THIS WAS THE LAST TIME HE CALLED…………
His Famous Quotes
YEH DIL MAANGEY MORE____-------on capturing peak 5140
Vikram decided to lead and an enemy post called “why have you come here Sher-Shah (vikram batra’s nickname given by his commanding officer) you will not go back”. Captain Vikram Batra is said to have replied “we shall see within an hour who remains on the top”.
While dragging lieutenant naveen under cover Lt. naveen said “ sir’ I can still fight let me go!!!” vikram batra said “tu baal bachedaar hai peeche hat ja!!”(you have family get back).
It was the moment When A BULLET PIERCED HIS CHEST and we lost a great warrior of our motherland.
YA TO TIRANGA LEHRAKE AAUNGA YA FIR USI ME LIPTA HUA AAUNGA……………………
This Was Capt. Vikram Batra
My idol…..
Capt. Vijyant Thapar (Robin)
He laid down his life for our better tomorrow……he was just 22
This his last letter to his parents
We recaptured our last hill from Pakistan but we lost our most valuable great warriors, brave brothers……today its time to remember them………
A SALUTE TO THE HEROES OF KARGIL WAR
JAI HIND!!!!!!
